Reliance Jio launches its JioPhone at an effective price of zero

Mumbai: At the 40th AGM meet of Reliance India Limited, Reliance Jio today launched its Jio4G Phone. Along with that the telco has announced its cable TV device. 

The JioPhone will be available for free but buyers will have to deposit a fee of Rs 1500 which will be refundable after three years. This means the phone will be available at an effective price of zero. 

Announcing the launch of new phones in India, Mukesh Ambani said, “Jio phone to be prized at Rs 0 as against Rs 3-4.5k for a smartphone price. A fully refundable deposit of Rs 1,500 to be paid for Jio phone to prevent misuse; money to be refunded after 36 months on the return of the phone. It will be available for pre-booking from Aug 24, all Jio phones will be made in India from last quarter.” 

“In just 6 months of Jio launch, data consumption in India went to 120 Cr GB a month, from 20 Cr GB. It has 125 million customers today, adding 7 customers per second every single day,” said Mukesh, who says that he is committed to providing affordable data and devices.
