Bengaluru: In a major relief to motorists, the government has extended the deadline to replace old number plates with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) by another three months.

The government had set a deadline of February 17 for the mandatory High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for all vehicles registered before 2019 in the state.

Responding to a query raised by Minister Madhumade Gowda in the legislative council on Wednesday, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy  informed that the deadline would be extended by another three months.

The Commissioner for Transport and Road Safety had issued an order on August 18 last year to enforce HSRP strictly in the state. Initially, vehicle owners were given a deadline until November 17, 2023, for HSRP registration. Subsequently, this deadline was extended until February 17, 2024.

However the process is hindered due to server slowdowns and other technical issues. Taking this into consideration, the government has decided to extend the deadline once again, providing a grace period for vehicle owners to comply with the HSRP mandate.
