Udupi: Congress candidate K Jayaprakash, vying for the Udupi-Chikmaglur Lok Sabha constituency, appealed to voters for their support, highlighting his track record of development efforts along the coast.
Speaking at various locations in Udupi on Tuesday, Hegde stressed the importance of electing representatives who are committed to the progress of the constituency.
“While voting for your representatives, vote by keeping in mind the development works done by them. For the past four decades, I have undertaken development works for the coastal region within the scope of my responsibilities and within the framework of the law. Now, I am once again asking for your vote. I believe that you will support development,” Hegde said.
Acknowledging the desire for change among Udupi’s electorate, Jayaprakash Hegde urged voters to grant him another opportunity to serve and lead development initiatives.”It is evident that the conscientious voters of Udupi seek change this time. I once again request you to give me another chance to assume responsibility for the development of the constituency,” he said.
Jayaprakash Hegde also highlighted the significance of accountability, stating “Voters have the right to question representatives who fail to deliver on development promises”.
“Every people’s representative has to carry out development works for the constituency. Voters have the right to question when promises are not delivered. Only when competent individuals are elected can a constituency develop. People will lose faith if representatives win the election but fail to engage with the constituency thereafter. When there are no development works to present, there arises a necessity to seek votes under someone else’s name,” Hegde added.
Hegde also cited the Congress party’s commitment to social and economic justice through initiatives like the five guarantee schemes.
Supporting Jayaprakash’s candidacy, Congress leader Prasad Kanchan praised his dedication to the constituency’s development, irrespective of electoral outcomes. Kanchan urged voters to consider Jayaprakash’s record of advocating for coastal communities, emphasizing his responsiveness to their needs.
“It is our duty to elect a candidate like Jayaprakash Hegde. He should be given the opportunity to win the support of the constituency’s people and enable him to continue development work from the Centre. Hegde is a dedicated politician, who has tirelessly worked for the development of the constituency, irrespective of victory or defeat. For this reason, the people of Chikkamagaluru and Udupi constituencies have placed great hope in him. Hegde’s development efforts should be remembered when casting votes. Hegde, who consistently advocates for the welfare of coastal fishermen, must be our choice,” he said.
The event saw the presence of Udupi City Council Member and Udupi Block Congress President Ramesh Kanchan and other party leaders.
