Renowned Dvaita philosophy scholar Sagri Raghavendra Upadhyaya passes away

Udupi: Sagri Raghavendra Upadhyaya, a prominent Dvaita philosophy scholar, preacher, and author, passed away on the morning of Saturday, June 15. He was 72 years old. He had collapsed and fallen ill after delivering a lecture on Shri Rama Niryan during a series of lectures in Bengaluru, blessed by Shri Bhandarkeri Math on the evening of Friday, June 14.

Born into a family of scholars, Raghavendra Upadhyaya was known for his strict adherence to traditional rituals and practices. He followed these traditions throughout his life.

Upadhyaya had a long career as a professor of Dvaita Vedanta in Udupi.

He was widely recognized for his spiritual columns in various magazines such as Sugunamala and Sarvamula Tatvavada, published by several Mathas. He was an expert preacher and a significant link to the old generation of Dvaita Vedanta scholars.

Upadhyaya was an authorized speaker on Madhva philosophy and was specially honored by Sri Krishna Math and almost all Madhva Mathas.

Recently, he participated in the Mandalotsava in Ayodhya under the leadership of Sri Pejawar Sri and performed Ashtavadhana Seva.

He is survived by his wife, one son, two daughters, and numerous disciples and followers.

His lecture series was conducted at the Karamballi area Brahmin Association.

Many expressed their deep condolences on Upadhyaya’s passing, including Pontiffs of Mathas of Paryaya Sri Puthige, Sri Palimaru and Adamaru, Pejawar, Kaneyuru, Sode, Shiroor, Mantralaya, Bhandarkeri, and Chitrapur. Udupi Taluk Brahmin Mahasabha, Yuva Brahmin Parishat, Karamballi area Brahmin Committee, Tulu Shivalli Brahmin Mahamandala, Udupi Priests’ Association, Sanskrit College’s management and staff, former MLA K. Raghupati Bhat, and MLA Yashpal Suvarna also extended their condolences.
