Renowned Kannada writer K T Gatti passes away

Mangaluru: Renowned Kannada writer K T Gatti (Kudlu Thimmappa Gatti), who was honored with the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Honorary Award and Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, has sadly passed away. He was 86.
Originally hailing from Kudlu, Kasaragod, Gatti was widely recognized for his literary contributions, particularly in the field of novels.
Having begun his career as a professor, Gatti’s journey in the realm of literature was marked by notable achievements. His works garnered attention and acclaim, making him a prominent figure in the literary circles of Karnataka.
Gatti’s literary prowess extended beyond novels; he was also a poet, short-story writer, essayist, playwright, educationist, and linguist. Throughout his career, he authored more than 90 books in both Kannada and English, showcasing his versatile talent and dedication to the craft of writing.
With a background in education and a passion for learning, Gatti pursued further studies, earning degrees and diplomas from prestigious institutions such as the University of Kerala, Trinity College in London, and the College of Preceptors in Oxford. His academic pursuits enriched his writing and contributed to his multifaceted literary oeuvre.
Following his tenure as a professor in India and Ethiopia, Gatti returned to settle in Ujire, where he also ventured into farming. Despite his diverse interests and commitments, Gatti remained dedicated to his literary pursuits, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire aspiring writers and readers alike.
Throughout his career, Gatti’s novels, including “Shabdagalu,” “Soumya,” “Mane,” “Nirantara,”, “Koopa,” “Aragina Mane,” “Bisilugudure,” “Avibhaktaru”, and many others, captivated audiences with their depth and resonance. His contributions to literature have left an indelible mark on the Kannada literary landscape, earning him the admiration and respect of his peers and readers.
