Renukaswamy Murder Case: Bail hearing for accused Darshan postponed to Dec 9

PTI, Dec 6, 2024, 5:04 PM IST

In connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, the High Court on Friday (Dec. 6) deferred the bail plea hearing of the accused, Darshan, to December 9 after listening to arguments presented by Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Prasanna Kumar.

The bail plea hearing, presided over by Justice Vishwajit Shetty, saw the SPP highlighting the inconsistencies in the medical reports related to Darshan’s health.

The defense argued that Darshan urgently required surgery to prevent paralysis, based on an initial medical report. However, the SPP countered, stating that the second medical report mentions Darshan’s blood pressure concerns, which can be managed with medication. The prosecutor also noted that physiotherapy was currently being provided instead of surgery, disputing the immediacy of the claimed health risks.

SPP Prasanna Kumar detailed the alleged brutality of the crime, citing witnesses and evidence:

  • Renukaswamy reportedly begged for mercy during the attack.
  • Eyewitnesses saw the accused assaulting the victim inhumanely and fatally.
  • A photo showing Renukaswamy pleading with folded hands was presented.
  • The case also involved digital evidence, including messages exchanged on social media platforms, which highlighted the involvement of other individuals.

The prosecutor emphasized that the accused’s actions were premeditated and ruthless, arguing against granting bail.

After considering the arguments, Justice Vishwajit Shetty announced that the hearing would continue on December 9 at 2:30 PM.
