Bengaluru: Former CM HD Kumaraswamy took to Twitter to applaud the Kerala government’s move of announcing Rs 20,000 crore package to tackle coronavirus outbreak on Friday, March 20.
In a series of tweets, he said, “The Kerala government has announced a Rs 20,000 Cr package to tackle the Coronavirus outbreak. which includes health care, debt relief, free groceries, low-cost meals, and compensation. Why can’t Kerala government be a role model for us?”
Kumaraswamy stressed that the government should take important decisions to tackle the coronavirus situation which has not only impacted the economy but also affected the poor directly.
“While 26 cases have been reported in Kerala, 15 cases have been reported in Karnataka. The situation of Karnataka is no different than that of Kerala. The outbreak is affecting the economy and it has a direct impact on the poor,” he added.
“We too must need to make decisions such as more money for health care, a monthly installment of bank loans, interest payments, grants to MGNREGS, a declaration of compensation. The economy needs to be boosted by helping the poor. In addition, the fight against coronavirus should be intensified,” he wrote in another tweet.
“Daily wage laborers and street vendors are affected by the restrictions due to the coronavirus. The government should devise a program to help them for these 2 months. Two months loan installments of auto and cab drivers must be paid by the government. The government should take a stand on behalf of the poor,” tweeted the former Chief Minister.
