Researchers claim to have discovered a new group of trapdoor spiders that builds burrows hidden by camouflaged doors in eastern Australia.
The research team from Griffith University and the Queensland Museum named the group of spiders Cryptoforis, which means “cryptic door”
Trapdoor spiders belong to the group Mygalomorphae, a group that construct deep silk-lined burrows that sometimes include a hinged door at the entrance.
It is said that the newly discovered species create well-hidden burrows which are also different to other trapdoor spiders in eastern Australia and that is why this new group of spiders remained undiscovered in the past
