Shivamogga: Neither can we live peacefully nor die a dignified death, say the residents in this village. The dead have a hellish experience reaching the cemetery in Kodlu village under Hosahalli Gram Panchayat of Thirthahalli taluk of Shimoga district. Notably, this village is situated in the constituency represented by the state’s Home Minister Araga Jnanendra.
A funeral held on Saturday reflects the harsh realities of Kodlu village. Villagers and the bereaved family carried the dead body of Thammayya Gowda, who died of old age, wading through water filled street.
The residents said the road which is at a lower elevation than the surroundings gets flooded during the rainy season. One has to wade through chest-deep water to reach anywhere near the cemetery grounds.
According to locals, the road is submerged under water for 4-5 months every year. Despite several complaints, people’s representatives and officials continue to ignore their plight, they alleged. The villagers demanded a permanent solution to the problem.
