Retreating monsoon brings showers and thunderstorms to Karavali coast

Mangaluru/Udupi: The retreating monsoon winds brought showers with thunderstorms to many parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Thursday.

Belthangady, Kadaba, and Puttur talukas received heavy rains. It started raining in the afternoon in Belthangady taluk and Kodagu district.

Mangaluru city also received moderate rain in the evening.

The walls of a house belonging to Susheela in Janata Coloni in Kalleri in Uppinangady developed cracks after a lightning strike.

In Udupi and Manipal, loud thunderstorms could be heard on Thursday night. The region has received moderate rainfall. The day on Thursday was partly cloudy in both districts.

The winter rains have hampered the harvesting and processing of betel nut crops.

Rains to continue over the weekend

In its weather forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department has sounded a yellow alert as there is a possibility of good rain in coastal areas on November 27 and 28.
