Revenue collection in Karnataka satisfactory, says Yediyurappa

Bengaluru: Revenue collection in Karnataka for the current fiscal year has so far been satisfactory, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with the officials of various departments, he said the commercial tax department has till date collected Rs 33,618 crore revenue, which was 44.2 per cent of the targeted Rs 76,046 crore.

He said the goods and services tax (GST) collection too has increased by 14.3 per cent. When the GST came into force, 4.51 lakh companies were enrolled under it. Now, those enrolled under GST has gone up to 8.16 lakh, which was 100 per cent more, he said

He pointed out that 64,000 licences have been cancelled for showing disregard for the GST.

“I have directed the officials that there should be regular inspection, subsequent follow-ups and strict scrutiny of the e-way bills. Till now, we have scrutinised 44 lakh e-way bills, he said.

The excise revenue collection was Rs 20,950 crore, of which Rs 9,145.36 crore has been collected by the August-end.

“The tax collection has been satisfactory. I have directed the officials to increase the collection by at least Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,000 crore,” he said.

On the revenue collection from the transport department, Yediyurappa said the target for the current year was Rs 7,100 crore and the target till August was Rs 2,750.82 crore.

However, Rs 2,476 crore has been collected, which is 90 per cent of the target for August.

“There is a decline of 10.34 per cent in the sale of transport and commercial vehicles due to which the tax collection has come down. We expect improvement after October,” the Chief Minister said.

Against the revenue target of Rs 11,828 crore from the stamp and registration department, the collection has been Rs 4,620.39 crore The revenue target from mining was Rs 3,550 crore of which Rs 1,314 crore has been achieved so far, he said.
