Bengaluru: Dr S Sachidananda, Vice-Chancellor of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has stated that 15 new research projects related to COVID-19 have been approved by the university.
“50 projects were submitted to the University out of which 15 were approved. The research will be done at a cost of Rs 15 crore,” he said.
Speaking at a news conference, he said the 22nd convocation of RGUHS will be held on June 25. PhD and gold medal recipients only will be participating. The rest of the students and their parents will be participating virtually. This measure was necessitated because the COVID-19 security measures of the University could cover a maximum of 200 people.
“We had invited research topics related to COVID-19. Of the 50 research proposal, 15 have been finalized. This includes a special proposal to prepare an eco-friendly green PPE kit. We also hosted ‘Ideathon’ for the students, where 200 new ideas on the prevention of virus from spreading were received, of which 28 were finalized,” he added.
“This year 36,434 are graduating from the university. Overall the results came in at 82.3 per cent, slightly less than last year. We have done 100 programmes on COVID-19 and trained 2 lakh Corona Warriors. We provided information on the virus and the data about medical students to the district administrations. The decision regarding university examinations will be finalized on June 30 following the government’s decision,” he said.
