RGUHS withholds results of 200 MBBS students for seeking god’s blessings

Bengaluru: The results of as many as 200 students pursuing MBBS course under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) have been withheld reportedly for invoking names of gods on their answer sheets.
In a circular issued recently, the University had warned students not to indulge in any malpractice or any type of foul play in the exam, including writing the names of Gods and other pleas on the answer scripts. Despite the circular, some 200 papers that contained such text were identified and have been forwarded to the committee which handles malpractice cases. Since RGUHS has adopted digital valuation process these answer scripts have been rejected and the students are now required to appear before the committee, which will decide the course of action to be taken after hearing the students.
As per the guidelines of the university, fine of up to Rs 3000 can be collected from the erring students, but this time round the RGUHS is planning to penalize the educational institutions as well. The varsity, earlier in October 2018 while issuing the circular banning use of irrelevant texts in answer scripts had directed the colleges to guide students on adhering to the same.
Students often leave emotional messages, names of gods or request for evaluators in the hopes that they would be given marks. A few examples are God, pass me this time. I will name my clinic after you and I believe in Lord Ganesha. If you don’t pass me, he will curse you! etc. In some instances, students even resort to inserting money inside the answer scripts or try to create sympathy for themselves by writing about their family background. A professor hoped that stringent action by the university will bring such cases down.
