International pop star Rihanna on Tuesday sparked yet another row on Twitter after sharing a topless picture of hers with a Ganesha neckpiece around her neck.
In the post, Rihanna wrote: “me nuh wan ya wear no lingerie tonight fa me girl” and tagged her label @savagexfenty”. The shoot was for her lingerie brand Savage X Fenty and the singer-actress can be seen lavender coloured satin shorts with other accessories apart from the diamond-studded Lord Ganesha neckpiece.
Social media users, mostly Indians who are her fans were disappointed with the pop star for hurting religious sentiments.
One user wrote, “Rihanna !! stop using my religion as an aesthetic !! that Ganesh figurine at the end of the chain 🙁 is a holy and sacred figure for us Hindus,” a Twitter user wrote in the comments (sic).”
Another Twitter user wrote, “Super offensive wearing Ganesha like that. My first god, a holy sentiment to millions of people celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi every year. Sorry RiRi, you disappointed me and others (sic).”
Even BJP leader Ram Kadam bashed popstar Rihanna for sharing a topless photo with a Lord Ganpati idol pendant. “It’s appalling to see how @Rihanna shamefully mocks our beloved Hindu God #Ganesha. This exposes how #Rihanna has no idea or respect for Indian culture, tradition and our issues here. Hopefully, at least now @RahulGandhi and other Congress leaders will stop taking help from her”, he wrote.
Recently Rihanna made the headlines after tweeting in support of farmers protest in India against the Indian government’s new farm laws.
Reacting to an article about the suspension of Internet services in and around the farmers’ protest sites, Rihanna had tweeted, “Why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest (sic).”
