Chikkodi: The water levels of River Krishna and its right tributaries including Dudhganga and Vedganga are observing a drastic increase due to heavy rains in the neighbouring state Maharashtra.
As the heavy rains continue to pour on the hilly regions of Maharashtra, the river tributaries of the Karnataka-Maharashtra border are observing a high inflow of water.
The five bridges connecting Nippani and Chikkodi taluks to other towns and villages have submerged completely due to the rise in water levels of the Dudhganga and Vedganga rivers.
Tahsildar C S Kulkarni has said that around 70,000 cusecs of water have been released to River Krishna from the Rajpur Barrage of Maharashtra. Around 19,000 cusecs from Dudhsagar and 89,000 cusecs from a dam near Kallola village of Chikkodi taluk have been released to the Krishna. The same amount of water is released to the Hippargi Dam, as that of inflow to River Krishna.
