Roads filled with sludge after untimely rains wreck havoc in city

Mangaluru: Untimely rains lashing across the coastal belt, due to surface tornadoes in the Bay of Bengal resulted in roads becoming slushy and muddy making it unmotorable and difficult for travelers.
Heavy rains were reported in various areas of the district on January 6. Owing to this roads were filled with sludge at many places.
The sewage works too were affected by the untimely rains and resulted in hindrance to smooth functioning of road transport. There has been an incident where a bus wheel got stuck in the mud.
Another incident was reported where a mud road on the Kateel-Bajpe Highway collapsed, disrupting the traffic. The roads were filled with mud and incident of two-wheelers skid was reported.
Most dams were filled with water resulting in river water entering paddy fields.
As the Kindi Dam in Shibaroor was closed, river water entered fields causing damage.
