Rowdy assaults police, shot at

Bengaluru: A rowdy-sheeter was shot in the left thigh after he attacked a police team from Upparpet police station who went to arrest him on Monday, April 29.

As per the sources, a team, headed by Sub-Inspector Rajendra, was trying to arrest Mansoor Khan – a resident of Assam, accused in seven different cases, including kidnapping, murder, attempt to murder and robberies.

The incident occurred when the team of police went to the spot to arrest Mansoor, he resisted arrest and tried to attack police constable Jayachandra with a sharp object. PSI Rajendra was forced to shoot Mansoor in the leg for self-protection.

The accused was then arrested and admitted to hospital for treatment, informed sources.

Recently, Mansoor had kidnapped Rajesh Sharma and Gopalkrishna and demanded Rs 5 lakh to release them. But Gopalkrishna managed to escape and filed a complaint with the Upparpet police. Acting on the complaint, the police rescued Rajesh Sharma on April 25. The operation to arrest the accused was carried out on Monday, the police said.
