Mangaluru: A notorious rowdy sheeter has been accused of confining an underage girl in a lodge for three days during which he repeatedly raped her. Apparently, the criminal had cajoled the girl into accompanying him to a lodge here.

The accused has been identified as Charan alias Sharan from Akash Bhavan here and has faced a number of criminal cases registered against him in the past. A case has been registered by the police against the accused under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Meanwhile, Charan is on the run.

Incident details

Charan was giving training for ‘Huli Vesha’ and the girl had come there for training. Somehow the accused cajoled the underage girl and took her to a lodge located on the outskirts of the district and kept her under confinement for three days. It is alleged that during her period of confinement, the girl was repeatedly raped by the accused.

In the backdrop of the child becoming unwell, she was admitted to the Wenlock government hospital in Mangaluru where she was provided treatment. It’s been a week since the incident occurred and the case under POCSO Act has been registered with the Women’s police station. As the case was getting registered, the accused Charan has fled.

Counseling for the child

In the backdrop of the admitted child recovering, she was taken to a centre for counseling on Friday. She has been sheltered in the rehabilitation centre here.

Speaking of the incident, city police commissioner T R Suresh said, “It is true that the girl child has been raped. A police team is looking out for the accused,” he explained.
