Padubidri: A group of men armed with swords savagely murdered rowdy sheeter Naveen D’Souza (38) on Wednesday night.
The murder took place in-front of a bar at Kanjarakatte near Padubidri-Karkala highway. Naveen had visited the bar for drinks accompanied by two of his friends. At around 10pm, Naveen emerged from the bar in an inebriated state and was in the process using his bike when the group waiting in the shadows stabbed him one by one. Naveen’s two friends ran away and gained a timely escape.
This is a pre-meditated murder. Equipped with an old grudge the group is supposed to have tailed the victim to finalize the best possible attack. It is presumed that the group included three or four members, said Udupi Police SP Laxmana B Nimbargi.
The assailants viciously slashed at Naveen who died on the spot. One of his ears was chopped off and was found on the ground. The bar along the highway recently relocated after government’s new rule. Its new location is remote, with not many people around.
Naveen has been accused of assaulting a state level leader of a political party and indicted in many other assault cases. Other than Karkala and Padubidri, he has cases registered against him in Bengaluru as well, informed the police.
Earlier he was working as a car driver. For some time he had also worked in a bar. He was one of the accused in last year’s murder case of Philip. He was a frequent drinker at the bar with his friends, causing many a fight, giving scope to enmity amongst them.
The dead body of Naveen has been transferred to Manipal morgue.
