Bengaluru: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday postponed election in Bengaluru’s Raja Rajeshwari Nagar assembly segment to May 28.

EC in its statement said, “To maintain the sanctity of the election process, the EC has ordered that the poll in this (RR Nagar) constituency be deferred to May 28 and counting will be held on May 31,”

The Election Commission order said it was important to defer the election for the time being so that the “vitiating effect of the distribution of money and gift items to the electors loses its intensity” and the voter ID cards were returned to the electorals.

On Saturday officials recovered nearly 10,000 voters ID cards from a flat in the constituency.
