Rs 1 crore ganja smuggling taking inspiration from ‘Pushpa’ movie lands 7 behind bars

Begur police busted a ganja smuggling racket with the arrest of seven persons, including two from Dakshina Kannada, and seized 175 kg of ganja valued at Rs one crore from their possession.

K R Arvind (26) a resident of Kunigal taluk; Pavan Kumar (27), resident of Tavarekere, Amjad Itiyar alias Imran alias Irshad (27), a Mangalore resident and Balki Prabhu (27), a Bidar resident, Nazim (26) of Dakshina Kannada, Prasad and Patti Saichandra Prakash are the arrested persons.

Police said that the accused have several cases, including murder registered against them at various stations in the city as well as neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh. The accused became acquainted with each other during their time in jail and teamed together to expand their network.

Acting on credible information the police arrested Arvind, Pawan, and Amjad while they were selling ganja at an under-construction building near RTO office in DC Halli on July 15. The police recovered 6kg and 380 grams of ganja from them.

Later during interrogation, Amjad spilled the beans that Prabhu used to peddle ganja in the vicinity of Electronic City, Hulimavu, and Begur on Wednesdays. On July 20, a team of police personnel under the guidance of ACP Sudhakar laid in wait for the accused near Nice Road bridge. At this time Prabhu and three others arrived in the Bolero goods vehicle.

Acting swiftly, police arrested them and upon checking the vehicle they found the hidden stash.
