Rs 12 cr spent to conduct Belagavi winter session this year: Ramesh Kumar

Belagavi: Around Rs 12 crore was spent this year to conduct Belagavi winter session informed Legislative Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar on Friday, December 21.

Addressing presspersons, after adjourning the 10-day session sine die Ramesh informed that this year the government has spent Rs 12 crore to conduct the  Belagavi winter session which is  Rs 8 to Rs 10 crore lesser than that of the previous year.

He further added that after he took over as Speaker, he had introduced certain austerity measures to prune unnecessary spending/expenditure for conducting the session.

He also expressed that both he and  Deputy Speaker were not happy about the amount of money spent last year to conduct the legislature session in Belagavi, therefore the ordered to spent less amount of money this year as such extensive spending was not necessary.

Ramesh added that he had also appealed to the government to appoint a special officer to monitor the spending and to make arrangements for this session. After which the government appointed Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, to monitor the arrangements.

Ramesh expressed that he is unhappy over the conclusion of the session amidst pandemonium, though he had tried his best to mediate between the Ruling and the Opposition parties he failed to convince them, as the result, there were no discussions on important issues in the session.

The attendance so far has improved, including that of the ministers, he added.
