Rtd professor collapses to death in university campus

Mangaluru: A retired professor of Mangalore University collapsed inside the commerce department of the university on October 24 and passed away. The deceased is identifed as Prof Raghuram (63), who had retired after serving Mangalore University in the capacity of professor of commerce and head of the commerce department.

The professor had visited the commerce department along with his colleagues and students when all of a sudden, he collapsed in sitting position. Although he was rushed to a nearby hospital, he had breathed his last along the way. Raghuram was unmarried.

Born in a poor family from Vorkady, Prof pursued education in Kodlamogaru Daigoly Vani Vijaya High School, St Philomena College Puttur and got his M Com degree through the postgraduate centre of Mysore University which was then functioning from the P G Centre at Mangala Gangotri in 1977. He later annexed Ph D degree and then joined the teaching profession in 1981.

He had served as member of the university syndicate, dean, and senate member and had retired only year back. Even after his retirement, he continued to be in touch with his students and had been providing guidance to them. Under his guidance, 16 persons had secured Ph D degrees.
