Mumbai: The rupee appreciated by 4 paise to 73.51 against the US dollar in opening trade on December 28, Monday as sustained foreign fund inflows and strong domestic equities strengthened investor sentiment.

At the interbank forex market, the domestic unit opened at 73.52 against the US dollar, then inched higher to 73.51 against the greenback, registering a rise of 4 paise over its previous close.
On Thursday, the rupee had settled at 73.55 against the US dollar. Forex and equity market were closed on Friday on account of Christmas.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.05 per cent to 90.18.
