SAD chief Sukhbir’s cavalcade stoned, 4 injured

Fazilka: Four Akali supporters were injured and a police vehicle was damaged when a group of around 20 people threw stones at the cavalcade of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Kandhwala Hazir Khan village in his constituency, Jalalabad, here.

Sukhbir escaped unhurt in the attack that took place last night, Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ketan Baliram Patil, said.

A case has been registered under various sections of the IPC against 12 people out of which two have been arrested, the SP said.

“Those arrested do not have allegiance to any political party… As the convey of Sukhbir was leaving a group of 15 to 20 disgruntled people started pelting stones,” he SP said.

It was the first day of Shiromani Akali Dal chief’s campaigning from his home turf Jalalabad.

The Akali Dal blamed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the attack, which was denied by the Arvind Kejriwal’s outfit.

Villagers said the protesters were miffed at not getting a chance to talk to Sukhbir about an issue with public toilet’s.

Bhagwant Mann of AAP is pitted against Sukhbir from Jalalabad Assembly segment that fall in this border district. Congress is yet to announce its candidate from this segment.
