Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slamming the BJP government in Karnataka said that India’s diversity is being insulted by the saffronisation of textbooks.
Taing to Twitter Rahul wrote in Kannada, “Karnataka state has always followed the path of unity, social justice, and humanity. Now the BJP is trying to teach the students against the principles of Narayan Guru, B R Ambedkar, Buddha-Basavanna, Kuvempu and other icons.”
Rahul further added that saffronisation of textbooks is an insult to India’s diversity
“The fate of the children of Karnataka is entrusted to the unqualified hands. Congress is committed to protect Kannada literature,” he added.
The textbook controversy had erupted with some organisations raising objections over the alleged replacing of a chapter on Bhagat Singh with an essay on a speech by Hedgewar in the revised Kannada textbook for Class 10.
Subsequently there were allegations about the omission of a chapter on Narayana Guru and several other prominent figures and their literary works.
The committee headed by Chakrathirtha was constituted to examine social science and language textbooks and revise them. The committee has partially revised social science text books from class 6 to 10 and Kannada language text books from class 1 to 10.
