Forest department officials conducted a raid on the residence of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike taluk president Jayaram Surnagadde in Surnagadde village and seized deer meat allegedly hunted and cooked on the premises.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of forest officials, led by Range Forest Officer Annappa, raided Jayaram’s house. During the operation, officials discovered that deer meat was being prepared as part of a meal. It is suspected that the accused, along with others, had hunted the deer and distributed its meat.
The officials are also investigating the possibility of deer skin being stored or traded. Following the raid, Jayaram fled the scene and is currently absconding. A case has been registered against him under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and efforts are underway to apprehend him, said RFO Annappa.
The raid was conducted under the supervision of RFO Annappa, with the support of Deputy Range Forest Officer Vijaykumar and forest guards Yashwanth, Sumitha, Vedanayak, Umesh, and Shivanagouda.
