Sakleshpur: A selfie attempt near a check dam turned fatal for a newly-wed couple after they accidentally slipped and drowned in Hemavathy river near Henneli village here, on Thursday, May 7 evening.
The deceased identifed as Artheesh (27), native of Belur taluk and Kritika (23), native of Henneli village had got married on March 20.
The couple was employed in Bengaluru but owing to the lockdown they were stranded in the village.
According to the police, the duo left home for a ride on Thursday evening and stopped near the check dam to click a selfie when the mishap occurred.
A case has been registered.
