Sakleshpur: A wild elephant was spotted on the National Highway 75 near Nandi Estate in Kollahalli village, triggering panic in the area on Sunday evening.
The tusker was spotted in a field adjoining the highway near the entrance to Sakleshpur town. As the elephant made its way to the highway, the traffic came to a standstill on the busy NH75 connecting Mangaluru and Bengaluru to a standstill.
Some people were seen clicking photos and shooting videos of the wild animal.
In recent times, there have been several elephant sightings in the nearby areas in Kollahalli. The spot where a person named Astika Bhat was killed last year in an elephant attack is quite close to that of the sighting on Sunday. In such circumstances, sighting the wild animal so close to the town has created a sense of panic among the local residents.
Meanwhile, officials of the forest visited the spot and ensured that there were no casualties.
