Sand mining at CRZ banned

Udupi: Since there is a ban on fishing along the coastal districts from June 1st to July 31st, there is also a ban on sand removal from sand blocks at CRZ areas during this period.

During this period sand mining may not be conducted. Sand cannot be transported. The country boats used employed in the extraction of sand must be kept away from the shore. Hoarding of sand has been banned in the district.

In case acting in violation to the ban including extracting sand, transporting sand and if country boats employed in sand extraction are seen in the river, then equipment and vehicles will be seized and legal action will be taken against the violators, informed senior geologist of the Mines and Geology Department in a release.
