Bengaluru: Late Nobel laureate and physicist C V  Raman’s house was targeted by a gang of six robbers who looted two sandalwood trees after threatening security guards, police said today.

The gang entered the premises early November 11, threatened the guards and forced them to sit in a corner while they chopped down the trees, they said.

The guards, in their complaint, said that the gang members were wearing monkey caps and conversing in  Tamil. They whisked away the sandalwood logs in two vehicles, the police said.

Police rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident, they said.

There are no CCTV cameras at the house, but CCTV footage from neighbouring houses were being scrutinised to  identify the culprits, they said.

The house where the renowned scientist had spent over three decades of his life is being managed by a trust.
