Udupi: The woman and the man who stabbed her using the same knife to slice his throat on the national highway near the Robosoft facility at Santhekatte here on Monday, August 30, died at the hospital where they were undergoing treatment.

The deceased is Sowmyashree (28), daughter of Vittal Bhandary and Susheela couple living in Kakkunje near Ambagilu and Sandesh Kulal (28), a resident of Alevoor Rampura.

While Sowmyashree succumbed to her injuries on Monday evening, Sandesh passed away today morning.

Sowmyashree used to work on a contract basis in the capacity of data entry operator for a nationalized bank at Santhekatte, while Sandesh Kulal was a computer operator of a medical shop in the city.

As per sources, Sandesh Kulal and Sowmyashree were in love with each other for the last seven or eight years. Two brothers of Sowmyashree work abroad and her father is ill. Because of caste and other differences, the parents were not agreeable for this alliance and engagement ceremony was performed for Sowmyashree with a youth from Moodbidri.

Angered by this, Sandesh had quarrelled with his lover, it is said.

On Monday evening, when Sowmyashree was returning home in her scooter, Sandesh stopped her and after verbal altercation he removed a knife he was hiding in his bag and stabbed her. He then sliced his own neck with the same knife.

The two-wheelers, knife and a bag were recovered from the spot of the incident. Udupi district superintendent of police Vishnuvardhan, ASP Kumar Chandra and Udupi police inspector, Pramod Kumar, visited the spot. Udupi town police have registered a case.
