Shivamogga: Clashes between people of two communities erupted on Monday, August 15, regarding the flex of Veer Savarkar placed at Ameer Ahmed Circle.

As a part of the 75th Indian Independence Day celebrations, Veer Savarkar’s flex was put up at the Circle.

Reportedly, this irked people of one community, leading to an attempt of replacing Savarkar’s flex with that of Tipu Sultan.

At this point in time, the police intervened and removed Savarkar’s flex and urged the people to maintain peace.

While the activists from Hindu organizations sat for a protest condemning the removal of Savarkar’s flex, a group of people from another community attempted to disrupt the protest.

As the situation went out of control, the police had to resort to the lathi charge.

Meanwhile, to maintain law and order, the Shivamogga Police have clamped Section 144 in the city limits and have tightened the security.
