Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, left Isha Yoga Centre on Saturday to begin his solo motorbike tour on March 21 as part of the global movement ‘Save Soil.’
During this tour, Sadhguru will cover a distance of 30,000 kilometres across 27 countries in 100 days and will also interact with the leaders of those countries, in a bid to encourage them to take immediate action to safeguard soil in their country.
Sadhguru said “the movement is an effort to bring a policy in 192 countries that if you own agricultural land, a minimum of 3-6% organic content should be there (in the soil). This is our responsibility for the future generation.”
Sharing information about the Save Soil campaign’s policy recommendations, Sadguru said, “We have written policy documents specific to each country depending upon its soil type, its latitudinal position, the region and agricultural traditions of that region; accordingly we have written separate policy documents for every nation.”
He stated that after leaving India, his first visit will be in the United States, where he will engage in media encounters to raise awareness about the issue.
He said, “In United States in the last 12 years, 50% of the farmers have not made a single dollar. The highest suicide rate among all professions in United States is (from) the farming community.”
Sadhguru will subsequently go to the Caribbean islands, where the Save Soil Movement is anticipated to sign MoUs with 9-11 countries.
Sadhguru will also speak at the UN Convention to Combat Desertification’s 15th session of the Convention of Parties (COP15) during his 100-day journey (UNCCD). He will speak to the international community of economic, political, and social leaders at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, the preeminent global platform for public-private cooperation, to encourage them to join the global effort to Save Soil. Both events will take place in May.
The Save Soil Movement is collaborating with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Food Programme (WFP).
Kangana Ranaut, a Sadhguru devotee, also showed her support for the rapidly developing movement. On Instagram, the actor posted a video encouraging people to join the effort.
