SC adjourns disqualified MLAs case hearing to Sept 26

New Delhi/Bengaluru: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of the petitions filed by the 17 disqualified MLAs to Thursday and expected to pronounce its judgment tomorrow.

Today, Tushar Mehta, former speaker Ramesh Kumar’s advocate justified his client’s decision to disqualify the 17 MLAs, barring them from contesting in any elections till 2023.

After a day-long hearing, the bench has now posted the matter for hearing on September 26.

The then Assembly speaker, K R Ramesh Kumar, had disqualified 17 MLAs which eventually led to the fall of the JD (S)-Congress coalition government headed by then chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Kumaraswamy had resigned as the chief minister after losing the trust vote which paved the way for the BJP-led government in Karnataka under incumbent Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.
