SC dismisses PETA plea against Kambala

Mangaluru: The Supreme Court dismissed the PETA’s petition which had questioned the legal validity of the ordinance passed by the state government allowing Kambala.

The SC bench comprising Chief Justice, Dipak Misra, Justice A M Khanwilkar, and Justice D Y Chandrachud, dismissed the petition.

The state government claimed the plea has become infructous as they had earlier challenged the validity of the Ordinance that has already lapsed. ‘The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2017’, passed by the Karnataka Assembly, has already been granted assent by the President last month. The new law has been notified as well.

PETA however, said that it will file fresh suit against holding of Kambala as the court has kept its option of seeking to annul amendment act.
