Scammers create fake FB account impersonating M’luru Compol
PTI, Oct 27, 2024, 10:40 AM IST
In yet another case of deception, scammers created a fake Facebook account impersonating Anupam Agrawal, the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner, and sent friend requests to numerous individuals.
The fraudulent account came to light when a few recipients grew suspicious and directly contacted the police commissioner to verify the account’s authenticity.
Previously too, scammers have created fake accounts in the names of police officials, sending messages to friends in their network and demanding money.
In response to this issue, Commissioner Agrawal issued a statement clarifying, “It has come to my attention that someone has created a fake Facebook account under the name ‘Anupam Agarwal IPS’ and is sending messages to several people. Since this is a fraudulent account, I urge everyone not to respond. I am in the process of filing a complaint regarding this matter.”
