Mangaluru: Fifteen days have passed since the schools reopened, but the students of2nd and 6th std have not yet received their textbooks nor uniforms. Moreover, it is as if the students have to wait for the uniforms being provided by the government.

Government and government aided schools reopened on May 29th. Excluding the 2nd and the 6th std, students of all the other classes were provided with the government supplied textbooks on the day of reopening itself. But the students of 6th std have received a few textbooks while the 2nd std students have received no textbooks till now.

2nd std textbooks itself have not come!

The students of 6th std have not received textbooks for Kannada, mathematics and social science subjects. Remaining books have been distributed. 2nd std students have received no textbooks and yet the teachers are taking classes based on older lessons. The textbooks have reached the warehouse and will be distributed soon, inform the officials of the education department. Textbooks for 2nd std have not been distributed. Besides around 20% if the textbooks remain to be distributed. Action will be taken for distribution by the end of the week, informed Mangaluru South Zone Education Officer Lokesh.

No uniforms yet

Uniforms too have not yet reached the schools. The teachers have no answer to the question asked by the parents of the children regarding the same. This problem persists every year, say the teachers. At some places, the uniforms are distributed through assistance from donors.

Slight relief due to Setubandha

Since lessons of the previous standard are being recalled through Setubandha programme, the delay in the arrival of the textbooks is being managed. But Setubandha preparatory exam has been completed and the success test will be conducted on June 20th. Later the lessons will be conducted. If the textbooks are not received by then, it will cause a problem to the students as well as the teachers, says a headmaster of an institution.

Close to 80% of the textbooks have already arrived and were distributed to the students on the day of reopening. The remaining books will be distributed as soon as they arrive, informed Y Shivaramayya, DDPI, DK

82% distributed

“Around 82% of the textbooks have been distributed to the student of 2nd and 6th std in Udupi district. The uniforms may be provided in a couple of days itself,” said Sheshashayana Karinja, DDPI, Udupi
