Padubidri: With the increase in rain and accompanying winds, it appears that the sea erosion has intensified at Kaipunjal and Ermalubada in the Kaup taluk.
The sea erosion has already partially damaged a private lodge near Jwali beach. Also, the houses and coconut trees here are imminent danger of getting washed away by the sea. Udupi district additional deputy commissioner Anuradha G, Kaup tahsildar Gurusiddappa and Town Municipal Corporation member Kiran Alva have visited the spot.
Almost 70 meters of land at Malpe beach has been lost to the sea. The wind has damaged huts. The concrete road within the limits of Udayavar Kanakoda has sustained damage due to the seawater. Therefore, in attempts to save the road, boulders have been piled along the beach.
