Sec 144 imposed until Nov 11 midnight

Mangaluru: The deputy commissioner has clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 in Dakshina Kannada district between 6 pm on Friday and 12 pm on November 11. The section has been imposed to prevent any untoward incident in view of Tipu Jayanti on November 10. Hence, holding protests, demonstrations and public events during this period has been banned. The DC has also prohibited any procession and display of banners in favour or against the jayanti.
In accordance with the state government’s direction, the DK district administration has also planned to hold Tipu Jayanti programme at the Nethravathi Auditorium in the Zilla Panchayat building on Saturday, November 10th.
The section has been invoked based on reports given by the city police commissioner and district police superintendent following the protest organized by Pro- Hindu outfits and BJP on Friday against the celebration of Tipu Jayanti.
Security has been beefed up to prevent any untoward incident. Two additional KSRP platoons have also been deployed to ensured peace during the Tipu Jayanti celebration, informed T R Suresh, City Police Commissioner.
