Bengaluru: Karnataka Department of Pre University Education has asked second year Pre University (PU) students to opt one of two languages to write their final examinations of the current academic year. According to a new order, the candidates should select one of the two languages, i.e., either Kannada or English to write their examinations. Earlier, the students had an opportunity to use both Kannada and English languages to write their second PU exams.
The new move came in an attempt to prevent confusions, issues which usually arise after same student opts Kannada for some exam papers and uses English to write remaining papers. As per the new order, the students should select either Kannada or English before September 30, 2017 to appear for their second PU examinations to be held in March/April, 2018.
No candidate would be allowed to appear for examinations without selecting one of the two languages. However, students would be allowed to write some of the technical terms in English. In the last academic year, 1.2 lakh candidates wrote their second PU examinations in Kannada while other 2.55 lakh students wrote their answers in English.
