Mangaluru: Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha on Wednesday told people should seek permission from the police if they want to hold protests or express their opinions against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Addressing presspersons with this regard Harsha said,” Before holding any protests or rallies to express opinions against CAA please seek permission from the police station.”
“If anyone wants to protest, they have to apply and we will specify certain conditions and assess law and order. The police have so far granted permission to six to seven applications to hold protest,” he said
“As many as 38 activists were arrested two days ago for protesting and violating Karnataka Police Act as no permission was sought for the protest, the same will be done if people protest without seeking police permission,” he warned.
He further added, “Several messages are being spread on social media to gather in large numbers for a rally and protest against CAA on December 20 and 23. But we have not received any application requesting permission to organise protests. When we approached the concerned persons for the planned protest, they clarified that no such programmes are planned as of now.”
