Bengaluru: Condemning state governments decision to not pursue previous Congress governments proposal of a separate flag for Karnataka, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the govt’s stand is against the sentiments of Kannadigas.
The proposal for a separate state flag, a brainchild of former chief minister Siddaramaiah had been forwarded to the centre for its approval.
On Thursday, August 29 Minister for Kannada and Culture C T Ravi told reporters that we can have Kannada flag as cultural flag, constitutionally there was no such provision for state flag according to flag code.
Taking to Twitter, Siddaramaiah termed Kannada and Culture Minister CT Ravi’s opposition to the separate flag as ‘Wrong on his part’.
“The state is not barred by the constitution or any law to have its own state flah. @BJP4Karnataka govt’s stand is against the sentiments of Kannadigas” he tweeted.
It is wrong on the part of Kannada & Cultural minister @CTRavi_BJP to oppose our state flag. The state is not barred by the constitution or any law to have its own state flag. @BJP4Karnataka govt’s stand is against the sentiments of Kannadigas.#Naadadwaja

“Have we not accepted our State Anthem? Has that, in any way, insulted our National Anthem? We just have to hoist other flags below the national flag & that will be our responsibility,” said Siddaramaiah in yet another tweet.
