Manjeshwar: Several houses at the first signal at Udyavar within Manjeshwar GP limits have been inundated due to the continuous rain here and the residents fear a possible outbreak of epidemic diseases.
The courtyards of the houses belonging to Aleema, Moosa, Monu, Hasina, Meena, Hairaz, Imthiyaz, Mary, UM Kunhi, Hasainar, Husainar, Sushila, Kamala and M S Krishan are completely inundated. The incessant rain since a few days has increased the water level and at some places, the rain water has managed to enter within the house.
No drain for the water to flow
There are over 20 houses in this area and the area itself is a low-lying one. Earlier there was a drain here for the rain water to flow, but later, the width of the drain was reduced to accommodate the construction of the railway track here and now, since the flow of water within the drain is impeded, the water level is building up, barging into residences and there is fear for possible flooding.
Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee president and panchayat member Aleema visited the affected area and informed that since the railway department’s permission is required to create a proper drainage facility here, a letter has been written to the MP Unnittan, urging him to take necessary action. Regional Village Officer Pradeep Kumar and Health Officer Dr Shaina visited the area, collected information while officials from the health department also visited the area and distributed necessary medicines to prevent diseases.
