Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy have secured a media gag order concerning the ‘sexual abuse’ cases.

City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru has put temporary restrictions on 82 media outlets from “publishing any news item that would depict them falsely” in connection to Prajwal Revanna case without substantial evidence.

Prajwal Revanna is accused of sexually abusing several women. HD Revanna, the son of Deve Gowda, was arrested two days ago on charges related to the kidnapping of one of the women allegedly abused by Prajwal, who is currently evading authorities.

The scandal garnered international attention. National media outlets also prominently featured the names of Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy in their coverage of the case.

Responding to this media scrutiny, HD Deve Gowda and HD Kumaraswamy filed an application in the city’s 34th City Civil Court, seeking to prohibit the media from associating their names with the Prajwal case. They requested that news reports not be broadcasted against them without substantial evidence.

Despite efforts by Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy to distance themselves from Revanna and his family, the plaintiffs argued that media outlets continue to unfairly associate them with the controversy surrounding Prajwal Revanna and his family.
