Bantwal: In a commendable effort towards environmental conservation and community involvement, Students for Development Organization (SFD) Mangalore Division organized a “Plog and Walk” drive to Karinjeshwara Temple in Bantwal Taluk. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 32 student volunteers from various colleges, who gathered at the temple at 8:30 am to embark on this meaningful initiative.
The day commenced with a special Pooja dedicated to Lord Shiva, setting a spiritual tone for the proceedings. Following the religious ceremony, the official drive commenced, focusing on cleaning the pathway from the top of the Shiva temple down. The student volunteers actively collected plastic waste and various other debris, ensuring the temple surroundings were restored to their pristine condition.
The drive not only aimed at physical cleanliness but also included an awareness campaign urging the public not to litter and to be mindful of the local fauna, particularly the monkeys in the area. The volunteers emphasized the importance of responsible waste disposal to prevent harm to both the environment and the animals.
The success of the event was bolstered by the tremendous support received from the temple administration. Chandrashekhar Shetty and Praveen Poojary, representing the temple administration, actively participated in the drive, demonstrating a shared commitment to the cause.
Prominent figures from the community were also in attendance, including Pramukhs Nishan Alva Kavoor, Nischith Bantwal, and Kyath Shetty, who added their voices to the campaign for a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
The “Plog and Walk” drive at Karinjeshwara Temple stands as a testament to the power of collective action and community involvement in fostering positive change. SFD and its dedicated student volunteers have not only contributed to the cleanliness of the temple surroundings but have also raised awareness about the need for responsible waste management.
