Bengaluru: Strongly criticised as the appeasement project aimed at consolidating the votes of the Muslim community, the ‘Shaadi Bhagya’ scheme was introduced two years ago by Siddaramaih, then chief minister. Two years later, the state government has decided to scrap the offline application system for the scheme following the large-scale complaints of misuse by the rich and the elite class. Henceforth, the beneficiaries can only apply online for financial assistance under the scheme.
Under the ‘Shaadi Bhagya’ scheme, Rs.50,000 financial assistance was given to the family of the bride. One of the common complaints was that while releasing the money seniority was not followed. Thousands of families are yet to get the benefit under the scheme.
To do away with manual intervention, the Directorate of minorities now has decided to transform the scheme online.
As per the new rules, Aadhar card and the SSLC marks cards of both bride and bridegroom has been made compulsory. Authorities are confident that the scheme will become more transparent once the system goes online.g
