Puttur: Shafi Bellare has reportedly been chosen as the candidate of SDPI for the Puttur assembly constituency at a party meeting held recently.

Shafi Bellare is currently in jail in connection with the murder of BJP leader Pravin Nettaru. It is said that his arrest and the later developments have become a setback to the SDPI’s activities.

Shafi Bellare will contest the Karnataka Assembly elections from jail. Since there is an opportunity to file his nomination from jail, he is expected to submit his nomination from there.

The official announcement about Shafi’s candidature is likely to be made by SDPI national president M K Faizi in Bengaluru.
