Kaup: In the ongoing investigation of the Pangala Sharath Shetty murder case, prime accused Yogish Acharya has revealed information about another suspect, according to police sources.
Sharath Shetty was murdered on February 5, 2023. The Kapu police had arrested the suspects Divesh, Likith, Nagaraj, and their accomplices Akash Karkera, Mukesh, and Prasanna Shetty. Along with the arrested individuals, charges were also filed against underworld figure Kali Yogesh, and Yogish Acharya.
Despite extensive search operations, the prime accused remained at large. In the meantime, Sharath Shetty’s family sought divine intervention from their family deity Panjurli Daiva for the apprehension of the murderer. The deity assured them that the accused would be found and brought to justice even if he was hiding underground.
After being on the run for a year and three months, Yogish Acharya surrendered through his lawyer to the Third Additional Civil Judge and First Class Judicial Magistrate Court in Udupi on May 23, 2024. The current investigating officer of the case, Kaup Circle Inspector Jayashree Mane, took him into police custody for interrogation.
During the police interrogation, accused Yogish Acharya reportedly revealed details about the factors leading to the murder of Pangala Sharath Shetty and the assistance he received allegedly from Rajesh Acharya in Dubai to evade capture.
Udupi SP Dr. K. Arun told Udayavani that the information disclosed by Yogish Acharya is being verified. So far, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to the prime accused, Rajesh Acharya and Kali Yogish are still at large .
