Bengaluru: The construction work of the Shiradi Ghat four-lane road connecting the state capital to the coast will commence in March this year.
This was decided during a review meeting of highway projects by Union Land Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the tender process for upgrading the highway to 4 lanes has been completed. “The work will start in March,” he said.
Further, Bommai said that Gadkari has asked the state to send a proposal to the Center for building a tunnel through the Ghat section as an alternate solution at an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 Crores. Gadkari has assured to approve the project, he added.
Moreover, it has been decided to offset the state’s share in the cost of highway construction by way of a long-term agreement for royalty exemption on the supply of stone, cement, and other raw materials, and GST adjustments, Bommai said.
